MDA India fun weekend at Freemasons Hall, Egmore, Chennai

The MDA India fun weekend for the year 2011 was well celebrated at Lodge Asoka's Free Masons Hall. It was attended by more than three hundred people. Nearly 120 children with muscle disorders from different parts of Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka participated. The welcome address was delivered by the President and other Members of Lodge Asoka to the families. Dr.V.Viswanathan – founder of MDA India addressed the families and updated them on the ongoing activities including the current attempts to establish muscular dystrophy related research at Chennai and also about our upcoming international conference on muscle disorders – MYOCON-2012 on January 21st and 22nd 2012.

The children with muscle disorders are at risk of developing recurrent respiratory infections and pneumonia due to their weak muscles. As preventive measures around 75 children were vaccinated with influenza vaccine free of cost. Return gifts for more than 100 children were distributed. Twelve Wheelchairs with cushion were distributed to the children who needed them./p>

It was followed by an amusing magic show. Magician J. Antony Jerald Anand , from Global Applications enthralled kids and adults alike with his tricks. The post lunch session was thoroughly enjoyed by the kids watching the movie on most popular and acclaimed comedy acts of Laurel and Hardy. Nearly thirty school bags along with books and pen were contributed by one of the supporters that day.
